Safe use of mobile phones while driving - advice for new drivers

When you are driving on the roads, you need to be a very responsibledriver. Your one mistake can not only affect your life but there arechances you would put other innocent lives in danger too.

Driving can be fun but also can be dangerous activity if driver doesn't take proper care.

Many times life doesn't give you a second chance. Especially if you aredriving. Mistake made during driving can affect you physically, mentally. Many people take long time to overcome the trauma afterfacing the mishap.

We all know do's and dont's of driving, but not all practice those.

Few days back there was an incidence where a young girl died in anaccident while texting while driving. Ironically her text message wassomething like 'you should not text while driving'.

For all learner drivers, DSA has thoughtfully prepared a very good syllabus that covers all important aspects of driving. Car, Motorbike theory testhas sections on vulnerable road users, road and traffic signs, speed limits, important documents etc.

Test also consists of DSA hazard perception section, which is like driving on the road - identifying, judging, and reacting to hazards from driver's point of view.

So basically every learner driver has to go through the DSA theory testpreparation, driving practical test to prove he/she is well preparedfor the road. Then only he/she gets full professional drivinglicense,Still accidents happen! Why?

Because we just forget all the training we had been given while DSA theory test preparation.Driving theory test questions, Free hazard perception test, mock theory test preparation is not just passing your driving test, but they are actually designed for practicing on the road.

These days communication has become very easy and many have got almostaddicted to it.There are people who can't stay away from communicationgadgets. And that is the main reason of accidents on the road.

Drivers tend to forget simple things -

Do not accept/make call when you are on wheels - All phone calls divert driver's attention from the road.

Law doesn't allow you to use hand held mobile while you are on the wheels, not even at traffic signals.

If the call is too important, park at safe place then take/make that call. But even for an important call you are not allowed to use the hardshoulder of the motorway. That is reserved for emergency breakdown.

If you know someone is driving, don't call them, or if you come to know someone is driving ask them to call back after they have parked their vehicle at safe place.

If all of us remember these simple things, take all possibleprecautions while driving, then the purpose of driving theory test, driving practical test,Hazard perception test would be solved.

How to cut down Driving test waiting lists

DSA Current practical driving test is currently extended to the point whereby learners have to wait month for practical test date.

Both theory test and Driving practical test can be booked online. At the moment, although candidates need to wait for 1month or so for practical test, but DSA theory test date waiting list is not so long.

The Driving Standard Agency is set to examine a new approach by different way of delivering the driving test. Number of motorists getting on the road to acquire their driving license, but only few test centres and instructors are around to conduct the government estimation. Driving Standards Agency has been working hard to find a solution to the problem of the ever-growing list of driving hopefuls.

The precise process of examination will remain the same but as a result driving exam can be taken as revise. According to the Driving Standard Agency all the local authority buildings, hotels and even leisure centres will potentially get the chance of becoming a test centre. With the new approach trial is been taken to the eight location. Feedback from the initial test is good and the scheme being extended and rolling out across five new locations.

But what does it mean for a driver ready to take to the open road with all but a piece of paper stopping them from doing so?

By considering the candidates benefit in local services from the improving driving test benefits Driving Standard Agency is planning to get more flexible scheme, so that the candidate should not wait for the test for long time.

With the review of the candidate's advantage from the improvements in local services the Driving Standard Agency has come up with new innovative scheme where the candidates need not have to wait for a month- long. Official DSA examiners will still conduct the dsa practical test. And "on-test" drivers will continue to receive the same standard of assessment. They will also get the license privilege if and when they pass.

Road Safety Minister, Mike Penning, said: "We have to be more flexible and innovative in delivering driving tests to make sure that we are offering people the best service possible wherever they live and I am delighted that these first trials have proved successful.

"We are now extending the trial so that more candidates will be able to benefit from a service that is convenient as well as being cost effective."

So, the dreaded driving test waiting lists that can halt a learner's bid for freedom after a successful training period look to potentially be a thing of the past under the new initiative - great news for fresh-faced motorists looking to gain their freedom.

You can book theory test, practical test online using DSA website.

Why child seat belt is important while driving

Most people love to drive a car and go out with their family. One of the simplest and the convenient techniques to protect yourself is to wear a seatbelt. It is well proven that seat belt save the lives.

While preparing for driving theory test and hazard perception test part of DSA theory test, the road safety majors are covered in the preparation topics.

The importance of adult seat belts, child seat belt is covered in the syllabus of theory test and Hazard perception, but most learner drivers forget this in later stages of driving.

It is very important to wear seat belts while driving. Also you must make sure the passengers are also wearing them.It is a responsibility of a driver to make sure the passengers are safe while driving.

Seat belts are designed in such a way that it gives a high level of protection in the event of a crash. They are designed to adjust automatically to fit the user, to be convenient and easy to use. Wearing a seat belt is not only important to the drivers but it is also important to the child sitting in front.

If your child uses a child's car seat, the seat must be fitted properly in your vehicle. One should always check a child car seat is fitted correctly and get your child comfortable. Child seat belt is designed in such a way that child is been fitted properly and sits comfortably. If the child is less then age12 then they have to make use of child seat belt. Child seat belt is designed according to the child's weight. If they are at the age of 12 or more then they can use adult seat belt.

Car seats are designed according to the children's weight. Label on the seat shows the weight range is suitable for. The weight ranges are divided into the following groups:

Group 0 and Group 0+ rear-facing baby seats:

Group 0 and Group 0+ -
These are rear-facing baby seats suitable for babies up to 13 kilogram's. Baby seats have their own (integral) straps. The adult seat belt or ISOFix system is used to hold the baby seat in place.

Group I -
These are forward or rearward-facing baby seats for children between 9 and 18 kilogram's.These seats also have their own straps or impact shield and are held in place by the adult seat belt or ISOFix system. In a seat with a front airbag, make sure a forward-facing child seat is as far back from the airbag as possible.

Group II -
These are forward-facing child car seats (booster seats) for children from 15 to 25 kilogram's and may have backs or side wings. Child car seats don't have their own straps - your child is held in using the adult seatbelt and the seat is held in place by the adult seatbelt and/or the ISOFix system.Make sure you position a forward-facing booster seat as far back as possible from a frontal airbag.

Group III -
These are booster cushions for children above 22 kilogram's. Some seats cover more than one group and can be used as your child grows. Check on the seat label. When your child reaches 22 kilogram's, they can use a booster cushion. These may not have backs but raise your child in the car's seat so they can use the adult seat belt.

While driving people should be aware of potential hazards on the road and wearing the seat belts can reduce the injuries of that person as it stops that person to come out of his seat and hit other interiors of the car which is also called second impact.

Despite of risk of serious injuries, and facts that seat belts can be effective in saving the life of people sitting in the vehicle, many people still neglect the use of seat belts while driving.

Importance of helmet while riding

There are people who ride a bike for enjoyment but there are some who are in need to reach from one place to another as cheaply and as fast as possible. People always forget their safety before riding bike. Riders should try to avoid careless riding and wear helmet for safety. Wearing a helmet is one of the important equipments used for riding. According to the Driving Standard Agency DSA helmet is compulsory for the motorbike riders and learner riders must pass their dsa theory test, dsa hazard perception and Practical driving test to ride motorbike on the road.

Wearing a helmet not only helps riders to protect from the accidents but it protects your head from the injuries. When you're working or riding a motorbike it's very imperative to have the correct safety gear. A motorbike helmet is the most vital item of safety equipment, but it will only provide enough protection if it's the right type and fits properly.

People should be assured that the helmet must have undergone anti-scratch anti-fog healing. Always make sure that eye shades should not touch the outer shell of the helmet because there are the chances of scratches. Always make sure that you have passed motorbike theory test and then move for motorbike practical test. This will help you to understand the theory as well as practical test both. While riding riders should make sure that they are aware of hazards on the road.

A motorbike helmet needs to fit properly. Make sure it surrounds the whole of your head. Make sure that the helmet straps are adjustable go tight enough to fit around your face. It's also a good idea to try on the same brand of helmet one size larger and one size smaller to make doubly sure you really have the optimal fit. Some helmets offer extra comfort by means of air vents, which can be easily slid open or closed to allow more air to circulate while riding.

People who are new learner rider must go for the lighter model rather than the heavier one. Maintaining the perfect balance also counts a lot. After you get the suitable helmet for your child or yourself, always be very careful in storing them at the proper site. Do not place them in a high or rough spots. The risk of scratching or reflection for a costly bike helmet should also be avoided. The helmet should not be placed on the load or mirrors that are located on the sides. If this kind of thing is repeated more often then the interior stuffing of the helmet gets damaged and thus it cannot be used over again and again.

Wearing a correct type of helmet will not only reduces your risk but also will be protective enough.
Take your own time to choose your helmet and enjoy your ride.

The theory test is a computer-based test at various tests centers around the country. For car and motorbike theory test you'll be asked randomly selected 45 multiple-choice questions and 5 marks case study style questions in 57 minutes and you need to get at least 43 right to pass. For Lorries and buses you'll be asked 60 questions in 70 minutes and the pass mark is 51 out of 60. You have 57 minutes to complete the test. There is a 15-minute practice session you can work through before starting the tests.

Hazard perception test:
This part of the theory test requires you to view 14 hazard video clips on the computer screen of approximately one minute each. You are required to watch these clips as if you were the driver. There will be 15 hazards to find - at least one on each clip. However, one clip will have 2 hazards. The hazard perception test clips will not contain any sound.

Candidates can score up to five marks on each hazard and the test contains 15 scoreable hazards.

You click either the left or right mouse button whenever you think you can see a hazard developing. The speed at which you click the mouse button as a hazard develops will determine your score for that particular hazard perception clips. You can score between 0 and 5 on each hazard.

The pass mark for this part of the test is 44 out of 75 (i.e. 15 hazards x 5) for car drivers and motorcycle riders. Those taking LGV or PCV (lorry or bus) tests must score at least 50 out of 75.

If you pass one part and fail the other, you'll fail the whole test, and you'll need to take both parts again. Once you have passed the theory test you can then apply to take your driving practical test (car practical test or motorcycle practical test).

Motorcyclists, lorry and bus drivers Safety improvements

Measures to boost safety for motorcyclists and lorry and bus drivers have been put forward in Parliament.

The measures - which also strengthen requirements for driving examiners and impact on the rules for drivers towing trailers - will come in to force on 19 January 2013 as part of new European requirements aimed at improving road safety.

The changes are being implemented by the Department for Transport in conjunction with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

The main aspects of the new rules are:

Motorcyclists - Access to more powerful bikes will be staged subject to competence, age and previous experience. The minimum age to ride the largest bikes without previous experience will rise from 21 to 24.

Licence renewals for bus and lorry drivers - At present, drivers of medium-sized and large buses and lorries need to renew their licences every five years once they reach the age of 45. Over 45s also need to demonstrate their fitness to drive through a full medical report. From 2013, all new or renewed bus and lorry licences will be renewable every five years. However, drivers under 45 will not require a full medical report and will still only need to renew their photograph every 10 years. All other drivers and riders will continue to renew their driving licences every 10 years as is currently the case.

Driving examiners - Compulsory initial qualification, periodic training and quality assurance checks will be required for driving examiners. Britain already fulfils most of these requirements but the new rules will enhance the Driving Standards Agency's existing arrangements.

Trailer towing - Under the new rules car drivers will be limited to towing 3.5 tonnes.

DSA chief executive, Rosemary Thew, said:

"Britain already has some of the safest roads in the world. These changes build on our existing standards and recognise the importance of our examiners' professionalism. They will also help to ensure that new motorcyclists gain the right skills and experience before riding bigger bikes."

DVLA chief executive, Simon Tse, said:

"These changes will provide a useful additional reminder for bus and lorry drivers. They will help to ensure that drivers of these vehicles will continue to operate to high levels of levels of safety by ensuring that they are fit to drive."

The European requirements are being introduced in Great Britain in line with feedback from a public consultation, which included responses from driver and rider training bodies, trade associations and road safety groups.

Common reasons for failing your practical driving test

Learner drivers, who want to pass their practical driving test, must prepare driving test with confidence and avoid some common mistakes that will cause failure in practical driving test.

Proper use of steering failure:
When you are driving your vehicle you must control on your vehiclessteering. This category involves a lot of care of the steering wheeland the control of it. Don't cross your hands on the wheel, Allowsteering wheel to spin back after a turn or drive with any hands offthe wheel for any longer than they have to be.

Proper use of gears failure:
In normal driving, Gears plays a very important role to control thecar. Before you move away, make sure you are in the right gear. Whenslowing down or coming to a stop, use the brakes to slow down the car.Remember that you should not use gears. If you are in emergencysituations, you can use gears for braking. In general rule, Move into2nd gear as soon as you move from stationary, 3rd gear at 20mph, 4thgear at 30mph, and 5th gear at 40mph.

Problems with parking manoeuvres:
One of the hardest manoeuvres is reverse parking. On the road, probablythe most used manoeuvre is Reverse parking. In this manoeuvre, thepurpose to test your observation, accuracy, control over vehicle andclutch while moving backwards. When reversing keep slow and givingyourself a plenty of time to reverse and observe cyclists, pedestriansand other vehicles if they seen then stop your vehicle.

Drive alongside a parked car and reverse back within the space of twocar lengths without hitting the kerb and whilst observing for otherroad users.

Incorrectly reversing around a corner:
In this manoeuvre, the purpose is to test your Control, accuracy andobservation. Lack of observation and hitting the curb and is a commonreason to fail your test. During the reversing, use an appropriatespeed. Keep slow and giving yourself enough time to judge yourdistances correctly.

Failure to drive at road junctions:
If you are driving over a junction, you must slow down your vehicle andcheck your mirror that helps to make an emergency stop. If you want toturn, check signal to turn and your mirrors, and slow down your vehiclewhile turning. A common test fail with junctions is limit lines. Lackof observation and fast driving in junctions results fail in test.

Effective use of mirrors Failure:
Wrong use of mirrors is a common mistake, especially when turning andchanging lane. Check your mirrors if change speed, direction change andslowing down. Between 25 to 50% of your driving time should be glancingin mirrors.

Failure to drive properly turning right:
Use the correct mirrors and indicate when turning right. It can bedifficult to Judge the correct time to turn. Observe an appropriate gapin the oncoming traffic and Wait when traffic goes on. You know howlong it takes for you to turn right; the aim is not to hold otherpeople up.

Too slowly driving:
When are driving over the speed limit or drive too slowly, the examinerwill fail you. Drive at the speed limit and not unnecessarily slow whenthe road you are driving is safe and clear. Very slow driving slow canbe frustrating for other road users.

Things to Avoid in your driving practical test

Learner drivers are keen to pass their driving test in the first attempt. There are people who manage to pass the driving test and get the driving license but there are some who are afraid of giving the driving test. They are quite nervous about it. Some learner drivers learn everything but at the time of practical test they are completely vanished. They don't remember anything.

According to DSA Top reasons for failure:

Observation at junctions: Reverse parking - Ineffective observation can lead to the accident while driving. So it's your responsibility to drive your vehicle in minimum speed limit. To keep vehicle Position correctly. Use the correct lane. If you are turning to left keep over to the left and do not swing out. Watch out for cyclists and motorcyclists coming up on your left and pedestrians who are crossing. If you are turning to right keep as near to the centre of the road as is safe. Avoid cutting the corner when turning right. You should be very careful before you move into a junction. And make sure it is safe before you proceed further.

Reverse parking: The very important think is how you park your vehicle. Ensuring you do not touch the curb or mount the pavement, while keeping the car slow, steering must be quick, and try to keep all round successful observation throughout the maneuver. Reversing around a corner is because ineffective observation or lack of accuracy.

Use of mirrors: Insufficient use of mirror can lead to the failure. People who drive a vehicle have got three mirrors in use. The main is interior mirror which is completely flat and gives the exact view out of the back. Always try to sit in the correct position to adjust this mirror. The other two is external side mirrors which have convex glass. The glass bends slightly outwards. The reason for this is to give you a wider viewing angle of the rear.

Use of signals: Use of signal must be followed carefully while driving such as Brake lights, flashing headlights, reverse lights, Horn, Hazard warning lights. Use of signal not given, or misleading signals can make the pedestrians and the other users live dangerous. You have to be very careful while making use of signal.

Inappropriate speed: Unsuitable speed can make the lives dangerous. Driving safely is very important. When you go for driving you should make sure that your speed is under control and you drive safely. Many drivers exceed the posted speed limits. But even if they keep to the posted speed limit, their speed may be unsuitable for the current traffic, road or weather conditions. One reason is that we do not know enough about the suitable speed for specific conditions.

There are many other reason that can be avoided while taking driving practical test such as laziness, sleepiness, being unprepared etc. Sometimes learner don't prepare well for their practical test, they feel tired and if they indulge in drink driving they are unconscious and failed to pass their test. Drivers should try to avoid this thing and try to overcome with this problem.

DSA used to publish all theory test questions and answers till December 2011. So learner drivers knew exactly what will be asked in exam. They used to memorized Driving test questions and answers unknowingly. To avoid this Driving Standard Authority made changes in the driving test pattern.

And now the theory test exam questions are not phrased exactly like revision test material. The motive behind the progress is to prevent learner from simply memorizing theory test questions and answers.

With these changes in driving theory test learner will gain a better knowledge and will be better prepared for driving on the road.

Since the new pattern came in practice theory test, many learner drivers started worrying - whether the new pattern would be difficult. We feel that the exam would be easier with the new pattern as learner driver would be more alert while preparing for the test.

Preparation with better knowledge and understanding improves road sense, and so it is very useful while actually driving/riding on the road.

We are curious to know how these changes affect the test nationwide pass-rate. Pass percentage before these changes were made live is at 63%.

Driving theory test pass rates are as follows:-

    Nationwide Pass Rates:

    Cars: 62.9%
    Motorcycle: 55.9%
    LGV: 88.4%
    PCV: 87.8%

Whereas driving practical test pass rates are as follows-

    Nationwide Pass Rates:

    Car: 45.65%
    Bike: 64.15%
    LGV: 48.39%
    PCV: 45.94%

The official statistics for the 2011/12 period are expected in July of this year. That statistics would show how the candidates have been affected by the new changes.

Foreigners without knowing English clear UK driving test

According to government documents, over 10,000 people of various nationalities have cleared driving test in Britain without having a basic knowledge of English.

According to Daily Express documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act showed that the 10,330 learner drivers passed the test with interpreters sitting in the back seat relaying instructions in their local language.

There are number of facilities provided by Driving Standards Agency (DSA) to the people who don't understand English language. Foreign drivers are not capable of reading instructions on road signs written in English. The DSA has provided special facilities for those people, who are unable to understand English. All these facilities need to be requested at the time of booking your theory test. There are theory test practice study material available that can help to clear driving test.

Ministers are also worried about the safety implications of providing driving license to number of people who do not speak English and cannot read road signs.

Transport minister Mike Penning said: "I find it incredible that Labour thought it was a good idea to let people without Basic English loose on our roads. Road safety should be our priority, not political correctness".

"Instead of spending taxpayers' money on costly translation services and interpreters we want to explore whether that money would be better spent on actually helping people to learn enough English to be able to drive safely".

Driving Standards Agency said: "We are review the level of foreign language support currently provided for drivers. Any changes to the current measures would be subject to a full public meeting".

The Driving Standards Agency website tells drivers that it is their responsibility to arrange an interpreter, who must be at least 16, and pay for the service.
The rules currently allow the theory test to be sat in 21 foreign languages. People are also permitted to attend the practical test with a translator.

If your first language is not English, or you can not read or understand written English well, you can request a voiceover in one of 21 languages(Albanian, Gujarati, Hindi, Arabic, Bengali, Punjabi, Pushto, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu, Cantonese, Dari, English, Farsi, Kashmiri, Kurdish, Mirpuri, Polish, Portuguese, Welsh). A voiceover allows you to hear the theory test instructions and questions through headphones. The questions will automatically be read out to you, you can hear the answer options by touching the text on the screen. You can hear the questions as many times as you like, you simply need to touch the text of the question onscreen again.

It is cleared from the recent survey conducted by DSA people who don't have basic knowledge of English still book theory test and pass the driving theory test in UK. There might be a possibility that DSA will allow English as a compulsory language in future.

    DSA driving theory test information

Since theory tests began in 1996, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has published the questions and answers from the question banks for all categories of tests for cars, motorcycles, lorries and buses. However, DSA announced last November that it was to stop publishing the multiple choice questions and answers, with unpublished questions being used from January 2012.

After that date, the questions a candidate will be asked on test will not be exactly the same as those in their learning materials. So in short - Questions will be drawn from new 'live' theory test question banks, which will not be published.

DSA's chief executive Rosemary Thew said:
'The reason behind the move is to stop candidates from simply memorising theory test questions and answers and learning by rote. The new books contain questions and answers for revision and also explain the theory behind each question.
This approach to learning will help candidates to gain a better knowledge and understanding of driving theory which will help them respond correctly to the new, re-worded live questions used in the actual test.

The idea is that driving test candidates need to learn and understand the theory and gain the appropriate knowledge required to be a safe driver on the road and withdrawing access to the questions and answers bank will stop people from just memorising just to pass the theory test which is very common from my experience with learner drivers. But we would like to assure you that the tests will not be harder, but will support DSA's aims to move candidates away from learning questions and answers by rote and towards their gaining better knowledge and understanding of driving and riding theory.

You would need to study these practice, non-live theory test questions for revision purposes (the Official Revision Question Banks). These questions are to test your knowledge and understanding of the source material.

New theory test changes from Jan 2012-
From this date onwards, DSA is to stop publishing the live multiple choice questions used in all theory tests. However, the DSA will continue to release publication of Theory test practice, non- live theory test questions for revision purposes (the official revision question banks.

How exactly would it affect candidates?
If you are taking your theory test before 1st Jan 2012, you will be asked the exact same questions as they are published here. But if you are taking theory test after 1st January 2012, you need to know about the changes in the UK theory test.
The questions in the exam will not be exactly same as they are published.
The DSA will not distribute the real/exam questions.
Real/live exam questions will not appear in any product - book, CD, mobile applications or on any website.
So your test would contain questions which are unpublished.

Revision questions Vs live questions -
Revision questions is the source material published by DSA
Whereas the live/exam questions are the questions based on the revision questions - which not appear in any product!

We wish you all the best for your DSA test.

Using mobile phone while driving is a growing problem

Driving a motor vehicle on public road could be challenging task. Irresponsible driving can be a dangerous activity for most of the people. Careless driving can harm road users and driver as well.

It is illegal to drive a car or ride a motorbike and make use mobile phone or similar device. It is also illegal to supervise a learner and use mobile phone. A mobile phone can distract a driver in various ways. Even a small phone ring can create an accident. With better technology, people can now use mobile phones without touching it - but nobody can resist listening and talking on the phone while driving. But please always note such distractions while driving can always turn fetal.

Since 1st of December 2003 it became an offence to use a mobile phone while driving. The fixed penalty was a £30 or up to £1,000 on conviction in court (£2,500 for drivers of goods vehicles, buses or coaches). Since 27th of February 2007 the penalty is now 3 points on your license or a minimum fine of £60. The new regulations are now applied to the drivers of motor vehicles on the road, including cars, motorcycles, goods vehicles, buses, coaches and taxis.

Research has found that telephone conversation distracts from the mental concentration and divides attention while driving. Normally it is expected that if a pedestrian starts crossing the road suddenly, a driver will try to react and stop the car. But if the driver is using a mobile phone, then there will be a risk that the driver will not be able to respond in time and ultimately create an accident

Consequences of driving with no lack of attention while driving could be fetal.

    1. Drivers are less aware:
Drivers are less aware of what's happening on the road around them. They don't pay full attention towards their driving, accidents can happen.

    2. Fail to maintain proper lane position:
Sometimes when drivers are busy with their phones they fail to maintain their lane position and speed.

    3. Fail to see road signs:
When drivers are busy with their phones while driving forget to notice the road signs and drive in wrong lane. They can create a problem for road users.

    4. React slowly and take longer to brake:
It takes longer for them to notice potential hazards and take necessary action.

    5. More likely to enter unsafe gaps in traffic:
Bike riders and car drivers are sometimes don't maintain safe distance to stop their vehicles in traffic. Bike riders always try to move further from the big vehicles and forget their safety on the road.

    6. Parking vehicles in no parking areas:
As the drivers are less aware about the surrounding, they park their vehicles in prohibited areas e.g. space reserved for handicapped people.

    Safety measures can be taken:

    1. Set up an answering Service:
Instead of answering a phone call while driving, you can use answering service so you won't miss that important call

    2. Switch off:
You can switch off your mobile phone while driving. This will help you to concentrate on the road. Or you can also keep the mobile phone in silent mode so you can receive emergency calls and messages later.

    3. Dial sensibly and assess the traffic:
If you want to make an important call, find a suitable and safe place to stop and use your mobile phone.

    4. Avoid conversations during hazardous driving conditions.
As a driver, your first responsibility is to pay attention to the road. Let the person you are talking should know that you are driving. If necessary, reject the call in heavy traffic or hazardous weather conditions. Rain, sleet, snow and ice can be hazardous but heavy traffic can be just as dangerous.

    Driving safty rules and regulations

Driving the word itself filled with fun and joy if one follows the prescribed rules and regulations of the road!

Driving in UK could be a pleasant experience if only you take care of certain rules and regulations. It is not only essential but also important that you are aware of these rules and regulations for few very important reasons. It is for your safety and other road users as well.

Every country has its own set of rules about driving. It is important that you must know and understand these rules before you drive on the roads in UK.

You need to consider these before thinking of driving on the road:

    Driving license:

Before you drive on the road, you must hold valid driving permit/license.

Driving license is most important document for the drivers. Visitors to the United Kingdom may drive rental cars using their national license, if it is in a language which uses Roman letters and numbers. Holders of other licenses must also show an International driving permit in English (available through motoring organizations).

    General speed rules:

Follow the speed limits. If you break the speed limit, then you could be punished. In towns and villages, the ideal speed limits is 30 mph. When you are driving, you should always keep your speed below the maximum speed limit.

If you are driving in the  town, then usually driving limit should not exceed above 30 mph (48 kph) and  major roads by passing towns  the driving limit should not exceed 40 mph (64 kph).

    Seat belts:

Always wear the seat belts. Seat belts are designed to give a high level of protection in the event of a crash. They are designed to adjust automatically to fit the user, to be convenient and easy to use.

Wearing the seat belts can reduce the injuries of that person as it stops that person to come out of his seat and hit other interiors of the car which is also called second impact.

Despite of risk of serious injuries, and facts that seat belts can be effective in saving the life of people sitting in the vehicle, many people still neglect the use of seat belts while driving.

    Drink driving:

Never drink and drive. People in the pub think they are an expert on the drinking and driving laws, but here are the hard facts as per the government law, people who disobey the law then their are severe penalties, including imprisonment, for driving with a Blood / Alcohol level exceeding 80 mg per 100 ml. If the police have a doubt that a person is breaking rules then he may stop the car and go for breath test.

Children: Children under 14 must wear a seat. So if children are traveling with you, it is your responsibility to make sure they are wearing seat belts. Children under 3 years are not allowed in front unless in an approved infant seat or attach. Rear-facing infant seats must not be used in vehicles with passenger-side front airbags. Infants should be carried in an approved baby seat.

It's simple - follow these rules and regulations in UK and cherish the driving!!!

Learner car drivers - some tips to avoid crashes with motorcyclists

Motorcyclists are 57 times more likely to be injured in serious or fatal crashes than car drivers.

Some tips to avoid crashes with motorcyclists:

Keep your distance. Driving too close can intimidate a less experienced motorcyclist.
Check for bikes when changing lanes. A motorcyclist may be in the space you want to move into, or moving into it fast. Remember your blind spot. For learner drivers its too mendatory to drive slow and turn vehicle safely. Visit here to pass online driving course .

Check for bikes when turning. Parked cars or large vehicles can obstruct your view of a motorcyclist.

Motorcyclists might pass you on either side, so double-check, whether you're turning left or right.

Check for motorcycles at junctions. Remember to look carefully for bikes, as it is often difficult to see them when they are coming out of junctions. Always look out for them before you emerge from a junction because they could be approaching faster than you think.

Park safely. Check for motorcyclists before opening a car door and ensure that your passengers do the same. When you pull away remember that motorcyclists are narrower than cars, which can make them harder to see.

Driving theory test center: Important documents required with you

DSA has been working closely with the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) so we can accept UK Identity Cards issued by IPS as an alternative means by which candidates may confirm their identity for all types of driving tests and Driver CPC periodic training.

Minimum cost of DSA driving theory test itself is £31.00. And on top of it, if you just don't carry required documents, you might loose your driving test fees. So why take a chance.

DSA has been working closely with the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) so we can accept UK Identity Cards issued by IPS as an alternative means by which candidates may confirm their identity for all types of driving tests and Driver CPC periodic training.

Candidates for driving tests and periodic training need to produce evidence of their entitlement to drive the relevant vehicle and prove their identity before the test or training can commence.

Candidates may currently do this by way of a driving license. Where the license does not contain a photograph a valid passport is also required.

Candidates will still need to confirm their driving entitlement by producing their driving license for driving test but, with effect from 27 April, candidates who do not have a photo card license will be able to use a valid UK ID Card issued by IPS as an alternative to their passport.

Any candidate who is unable to satisfy the examiner of their driving entitlement or identity will have their driving test cancelled and may lose their fee.

    Things to note down:

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the test time shown above to allow DSA to check you in.

    Must-have documents from driving test-
    • A valid signed UK photocard licence
    • An old style valid signed UK paper driving licence and a valid passport.

    Accepted photographic ID -

Photographic identification acceptable for both driving theory and driving practical tests are as follows:
    1. A valid signed UK (or Northern Ireland) photocard licence
    2. An old style valid signed UK (or Northern Ireland) paper driving licence and a valid passport.

If you now have two or more tests booked that you have not yet taken, please check that there is at least 2 hours between your appointments. Failure to do so could cause you to miss a test and lose your fee. If you haven't already, you can also book appointment online.

Remember: if you do not bring your driving licence and acceptable proof of identity when you arrive for your test you will not be allowed to take it and you will lose your test fee.

Learner drivers - Few things to keep in mind while using satellite navigation systems

Satellite Navigation (satnav) systems are popular with many drivers and provide a safe option for directions for drivers in unfamiliar areas. Correctly used satnav systems have the potential to ease congestion, reduce fuel consumption and improve road safety. Listening to satnav instructions is likely to be less distracting for a driver than stopping every few minutes to check a paper map or worse, trying to use a paper map in motion.

Satellite navigation systems are perhaps one of the most futile driving aids. With their improved functions like voice commands and blue-tooth technology, these systems are making traveling fun and easy. Still, it is necessary to use them wisely while driving without putting yourself in danger.

The Think Road safety has given few useful tips on how you should keep in mind while using Satellite Navigation (satnav) systems:

    • choose a satnav system that is suitable for you.
    • the controls are simple to understand and operate;
    • you can read and understand the graphics;
    • the system includes all the information you need (e.g. height restrictions in the case of a tall vehicle);
    • the map information is current and can be updated in the future.
Driving on the road should be paid full attention on your vehicle otherwise you could be in big trouble, like collides with another vehicle or having cross the road dividers or may be others.

While using Satellite Navigation (satnav) systems you keep in mind that this is help to you for finding out the location or some specified place. It should be used very carefully or you have to travel some more distance unwanted.

Many drivers on the road do not follow the guidelines well and pay healthy money for avoiding traffic signals. On the other hand if you are well passed theory test it will be easy to you drive a vehicle on the road. So, this leads to be important factor which is known as "hazard perception test". It is passed during your theory test examination. And its preparation is provided by theory-test.co.uk.

If you are not passed your Driving theory test then there is one great opportunity for you. There you will be more pleased to learn driving because there is confidential tradition for learner drivers.

Hazard perception test free clips plays a very vital role as it reduces number of deaths on the roads. While driving there are some hazards driver has to look such as huge vehicles moving over to your side of the road, loose pets and farmyard animals, changes in the traffic movement and volume, junctions and roundabouts, horse riders, weather conditions of the day, road surfaces, parked vehicles, hidden junctions and turns.

Driving Licence Could Fine You £1000

There are 1.6 million riders who might be at risk for a driving license criminal offense and being fined £1,000 because they usually aren't even aware of? Are you one of them?

In fact, 1.6 million have left out the deadline, and another 2.9 million are at risk.
Most of us don't have any idea's that the photo card attached to our paper license has an termination date, and that if we fail to renew our driving license by the due date we might be liable for a huge penalty.

    Law:

UK riders are needed to manage their photo on their photo card driving license in every 10 year's period (According to the DVLA), and British law requires drivers to renew their driving license whether or not they are active drivers.

Sainsbury's automobile insurance found that 1.6 million drivers' photographs have expired on their driving license and a further 2.9 million needs to be renewed by the ending of 2012. They submitted a Freedom of Information request to check how many cards had expired undetected. In fact, over the next five years 13 million of us will need to renew our photo cards.

The inspections found that just one in three had no idea that their license had expired, that result was shocking. Further 10 million people don't even know when their driving licence expires and 14% of expired photo card licenses have been out of due date since 2009 or ahead prior to the notice period.

    Consequences:

It appears like an insignificant bit management, but generally might be immense. There might be Penalty implemented by the cops, having run out photograph on your driving license carries a £1,000 fine penalty (Section 99 (5) of the Road Traffic Act 1988).

Sainsbury's research discovered that around 29 % of riders know about the fine. Almost (41 %) of bike drivers are not being aware of the consequences of an expired photograph on their driving license.

Drivers need to remember that their photo card license serves as more than just a driving license. We need to prefer to use it as a form of identification for other things such as hiring a car or an internal flight, such as, having an out of date photograph could cause troubles or waits.

The photo card driving license was introduced in 1998. Many people may not remember that they need to update their photograph. We would therefore encourage all drivers to check when their photo card was issued and ensure that they arrange to update their photo when required to avoid risking a £1,000 fine.

The national speed limit is not a target speed. Focus on your driving and don't worry about shifting controls.

Driving too close to the car in front, undertaking and failing to signal are widely accepted as examples of bad driving. However, some drivers fail to accept that driving too fast is also poor driving despite the fact that this is a contributory factor in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries every year.

Consider the consequences of causing an accident due to driving at excessive speed
If you cause an accident you will have to live with the emotional consequences of deaths or injuries caused to others.

Don't assume it's safe to break the speed limit on rural roads because there is less traffic or an open road ahead
Be aware that there may be unexpected hazards, such as blind bends, vehicles coming out of junctions and animals on the road.

We wish you all the best for your DSA test.
